Dye Based Inkjet Inks

These inks are used by a class of printers which create characters by the controlled placement of liquid color dots. The inkjet printers commonly used for office and graphic arts applications are referred to as "drop on demand." These are further sub-classed as "thermal" bubble jet printers represented by HP, Canon, Lexmark, and Olivetti or "piezo" inkjet printers from Epson.

Pigment Based Inkjet Inks

These inks use particles of solid color known as pigments. While dye based colors are in "solution" to form an ink, inkjet pigment particles exist as a sub-micron dispersion. These inks have been used with:
